Description: We had a great day on Red Cone! A bunch of us met at Safeway, including Sue, Ben his dad Mike, Dawson and two friends, Tracy and myself. Alex n Kristine joined the convoy just west of Manitou, and Mac n Steph joined the convoy in Divide. Unfortunately just past Divide, Dawson's Jeep developed some serious issues and they had to peel off and return home. We turned right at Hartsell and right again at Fairplay, and then left onto CR 60 where we met my friends Dave and his dad George who joined us as my guests. We all head up closer to the trailhead and along the way we noticed a lot of other folks n rigs out to enjoy the trails that day. We got pretty close to the trail head and decided to unload the trailers, and we all made our way up Red Cone Pass. Red Cone isn't known for being particularly difficult - not too many obstacles - but it can get a little 'tight'. I had been on the trail twice before with a Ramcharger with plenty of room, and this time I was a little curious to whether or not my rig would have any 'width' issues, especially involving two very specific trees exactly 8 feet apart. Luckily, we all made it through without any problems. We worked our way up through the trees, and once we got past Timberline the views just got longer and more amazing. It wasn't very long before we found ourselves on top of the mountain, driving literally along the mountain peak. We stopped for a very scenic lunch, and then worked our way a few more miles to our destination - Red Cone Summit. We stuffed all of our machines at the small parking area, snapped some amazing pics, and then turned everything around and worked our way back down to the trailers, enjoying the scenery again on our way down. I don't think we had a single mechanical anywhere on the trail. After we got loaded up, Mac led us to one of his favorite Dinner spots where we all enjoyed some BBQ, steak, and shrimp, then made our way back via a different route taking us through Deckers. It was a long day but a really good day! Thanks to everyone that came out!
